Sorn Castle Wedding Venue in Ayrshire

Scottish castle weddings are world famous for a good reason - they’re romantic and dramatic, and connect with the most interesting aspects of our history. And as castle wedding venues in Ayrshire go, Sorn Castle is utterly unique. Sitting on a picturesque bend on the river Ayr, it’s one of the oldest inhabited castles in Scotland (if not the oldest), and it’s still the home for the McIntyre family today. It offers exclusive use and overnight accommodation, just as it would have for King James the VI who attended a wedding here in the 1500s.

Nowadays, you don’t need to be royalty to hang out there - and Cheryl and Jamie had a beautiful Sorn castle wedding of their own in the spring. It was an emotional, intimate affair, with loads and loads of smiling faces throughout - an absolutely perfect day. Martyn - Sorn’s co-ordinator extraordinaire - offered up his classic car for the boys to arrive in style, and Francis helped me access the roof to get the best angle for a shot of all the wedding guests. The weather wasn’t everything we’d hoped for, but spirits remained undampened - we got some beautiful portraits in the dramatic interior of the castle, with all its heritage and beautiful pockets of light - and the party continued on long into the night!
