Sunny St Andrews Wedding at Kinkell Byre Barn Venue

Couple getting married at sunny St Andrews wedding at Kinkell Byre Barn

St Andrews Wedding - Dylan + Rachel

I am a big fan of a Kinkell Byre wedding, it’s one of those venues that attracts the best couples and makes for a really cool, laid back wedding day.

I first met Rachel when I was photographing her brother’s wedding a few years back. Now, in the world of wedding photography, there is no greater compliment than shooting someone’s wedding and off the back of that, one of their family then books you to photograph their own day. I gave myself a massive high five when Rachel and Dylan got in touch to enquire about my availability and talk to me about their wedding plans.

Wedding photography in St Andrews

On the coast, just outside St Andrews, Kinkell Byre is a unique barn venue with beautiful sea views. It’s packed full of charm and character and I love that it’s a blank canvas. Couples can put their own stamp on the place and really make it their own.

Both Rachel and Dylan got ready in St Andrews old town. Even though they were in different locations they were close enough for me to run back and forth a few times that morning. I certainly got my steps in that day!

They are the most chilled out and laid back couple, Rachel is a born and bred Glaswegian and Dylan is from New Zealand. They live together in London but have friends and family based all over the world. They were really looking forward to showing everyone Scotland and the beauty of St Andrews.

When I arrived at Kinkell Byre the Scottish and New Zealand flags were flying and they looked brilliant against the bright blue sky. Dylan and Rachel had picked the perfect day!

Their ceremony was held in the Tattie Shed, an area in the vast converted barn. Festoon lights hung from the ceiling giving the space giving a really cosy, intimate feel. Dylan and Rachel said their vows in front of an arch covered with bright flowers. These two were all about the colour!

Straight after the ceremony it was time for confetti. Always a highlight of the day for me, there’s so much energy and joy in that moment. Everyone cheered and flung handfuls of colourful petals over them and Dylan and Rachel had the biggest grins on their faces. Now it was time to party!

You just cannot go wrong with a Kinkell Byre wedding, especially on a sunny day. We got to spend a bit of time on the beach before heading back up to take a few family photos in front of those bright red doors. You don’t have to go far to find great backdrops at Kinkell. It’s full of nice wee spots for portraits.

I can’t rave about Dylan, Rachel and their Kinkell Byre wedding enough. It was one of those wedding days where everything just flows, everything goes right. I loved it! Here are some of my highlights.
