ITALIAN DESTINATION WEDDING OF BECCA + ADAM

Italian Wedding destination goals? Look no further!

Becca and Adam travelled from Scotland to the cute Italian town of Bagni di Lucca, nestled alongside the banks of the River Lima and in the foothills of the region of Tuscany (flight from Edinburgh to Pisa by the way - nae hassles).

Italian Destination Wedding Photographer

Getting there a couple of days before meant I could scout out the area, and venue and come up with a plan for the big day. Added bonus - it allowed me to fully absorb the Italian experience including the whacky races that is the Italian road system! A hire car is pretty much a necessity for most destination weddings to allow me to get the best out of the day but I’m glad my years of trying to find my way around East Kilbride served me well.

MY FAVOURITE ITALIAN DESTINATION WEDDING SUPPLIERS

The venue - Agriturismo La Torre. Sitting atop the tree-covered hills it has some stunning views back up the river Lima to Bagni di Lucca Old Town plus its high enough to catch a lovely wee breeze which was definitely welcome on the wedding day!

The wonderful Lisa at Hitched in Italy is the go-to planner extraordinaire if you are getting married in the region. She was there the day before to meet me and was kind enough to show me around and watch my jaw drop as I took in the views! Not only was she there all day on the day to make things go smoothly but she also introduced me personally to the delights of Aperol Spritz!

Film duties were provided by We Are One - Austin and Alex (father and Son y’know). A brilliant team, super easy to work with and I can personally attest to Alex’s amazing drone flying skills as a pair of big mad Italian seagulls tried to take the drone out of the sky and into the river Top Gun style!

GETTING MARRIED IN ITALY

On the day I was able to arrive super early and hang out with the girls before Adam and the guests began to arrive - there is plenty of accommodation so that the full wedding party and most of the guests could stay on site. Being able to split my time between both parties meant that I could get great coverage of both sides without the need for a second photographer to travel with me

I have to admit that Becca’s reveal to her Dad was one of the best I’ve witnessed. Neil only just managed to keep himself together - very proud Da!

After the hilltop ceremony, conducted outside the Villa’s Private Chapel at the highest point in the property, we headed down to Bagni Di Lucca for beer and ice cream (well no beer for me - hire car remember - I should add wedding taxi to my list of services!). Now we all know how much a Scottish crowd loves to see a bride but the strong Scottish ties to Italy must run deep as the local village bar erupted into cheers when the couple appeared around the corner!

WHY HAVE AN ITALIAN WEDDING? THE FOOD!

After some quick photos in the old town, we headed back up for speeches and dinner. During our planning meeting, Becca told me that the food and the family atmosphere of the meal were super important to her. I made sure that I kept my camera close during the meal and captured what was one of my favourite parts of the day. People laughing, joking, drinking Limoncello and passing around plates of delicious Italian food. Photographing the actual meal is a first for me but a tradition that I think I’ll carry on into future destination weddings!

GOLDEN HOUR IN BAGNI DI LUCCA

Up until this point the sky had been mercifully cloudy to help protect us all from the heat wave a little but as the sun began to set Tuscany did not disappoint! The clouds cleared and the hilltop was washed in a gorgeous golden light. We quickly scampered back up to the hilltop villa and took it all in!

Darkness sets in quickly on the continent and the party that ensued, outdoors under the festoon lights and surrounded by friends and family, will stay in my memory for a very long time! A wee dress change for Becca left Adam even more stunned and we grabbed a bottle and got a bit crazy for some great champagne spray photos.

Although I left mega late, it wasn’t as late as some of the groomsmen that I met in the Cafe the morning after that were still going from the night before! Don’t worry, taxi driver Stevie safely chauffeured them all back up the hill.

Becca and Adam - you were amazing! If I wasn’t already married (and had eloped!) I’d invite you to my own wedding and we could relive all the memories again!
